Once admitted, residents can arrange appointments with outside physicians. The family must simply give the nurses’ station the date, time, type of appointment, and pick-up time. Nurses will make a packet of information to send to the doctor with the resident. This will include a Face sheet, Current Medication List, Consultation sheet for notes from the doctor, and Physician Order sheet for any changes in medication the doctor orders. All of that will return to the facility with the resident.
Two of the University of Cincinnati Physicians in the clinic each make house calls directly to the resident’s apartment twice a month so that residents do not have to go over to the clinic.
If the nurses administer the medications, the nurses will get the refills. If the nurses administer the medication, all medications must be in the box unit dose system.
