University of Cincinnati Affiliation
Driving Innovation in Senior Care
Since 2012, Maple Knoll Village has maintained a formal affiliation with the University of Cincinnati that has transformed senior living through research, technology, and interprofessional collaboration. Engineering, nursing, and medical students work alongside our residents to develop innovative solutions—from fall detection systems to medication error prevention tools—that improve quality of life and safety. To date, over 3,500 students and 750 residents have benefited from this groundbreaking partnership.

This collaboration positions Maple Knoll Village at the forefront of aging innovation, allowing us to shape the future of healthcare and quality of life for older adults. The affiliation creates opportunities for residents to participate in cutting-edge research while students gain hands-on, person-centered education. Through this partnership, we’re reducing the cost of aging in place, lowering hospital readmission rates, and developing new technologies and systems that benefit older adults everywhere. It’s a model that demonstrates how community, education, and innovation can work together to create lasting positive change.

Collaborative Learning and Innovation
Since 2021, business students from area high schools have partnered with Maple Knoll Village to develop practical marketing and business solutions. Each year, students form mock advertising agencies, conduct SWOT analyses, brainstorm innovative marketing ideas, and present business pitches to our residents and leadership team. This hands-on collaboration bridges classroom learning with real-world experience, providing students with valuable professional skills while bringing fresh ideas and perspectives to our community.
Resident Engagement and Student Impact
The annual presentation events are highlights for both groups—students showcase their ideas directly to Maple Knoll residents, receiving valuable feedback and seeing their recommendations come to life. Many student concepts have been implemented at Maple Knoll Village, demonstrating the real impact of this partnership. The collaboration builds meaningful intergenerational relationships and proves that age and experience combined with youth and innovation create powerful opportunities for learning and growth.
