Ways to Give

Your Legacy. Their Future.

Have you thought about the legacy you would like to leave? For generations, philanthropy has helped shape Maple Knoll Communities into the place it is today. Through the generosity of residents, families, foundations, corporations, and friends, donors have helped ensure that future generations can continue to experience the exceptional care, programs, opportunities, and sense of community that make Maple Knoll Village and The Knolls of Oxford special.

The Living Legacy Society

The Living Legacy Society recognizes those who have made a lasting commitment to the future of Maple Knoll Communities through their estate plans, planned gifts, or significant outright gifts. At Maple Knoll Village, this tradition began in 1992 and has grown to include generations of supporters whose generosity continues to strengthen our mission. The Knolls of Oxford established its Living Legacy Society in 2018, extending this tradition of generosity and legacy to the Oxford community.

Create a Legacy That Reflects What Matters to You

A meaningful gift is more than a financial decision; it is an opportunity to carry your values forward. Your gift can honor the people and experiences that have been meaningful to you while helping ensure Maple Knoll Communities remains strong for generations to come.

Your Gift, Your Way

There are many ways to support Maple Knoll Communities Foundation today and in the future. Explore the giving option that best aligns with your philanthropic and financial goals.

A bequest is one of the most meaningful ways to leave a lasting legacy at Maple Knoll Communities.

You may include the Foundation in your:

  • Will
  • Trust
  • Estate plan

Bequests may be unrestricted or designated for a specific purpose consistent with Foundation policies.

Sample bequest language is available upon request, and donors are encouraged to notify the Foundation of their plans so we may honor their intentions.

A charitable gift annuity allows you to make a gift while receiving fixed income payments for life.

Maple Knoll Communities Foundation partners with the National Gift Annuity Foundation (NGAF) to administer charitable gift annuities.

Key features include:

  • Fixed payments for one or two individuals
  • Immediate or deferred income options
  • Payments based on NGAF underwriting guidelines and current rates

Gift annuities are subject to review and acceptance and are funded with assets approved by NGAF. Donors are encouraged to consult their advisors to determine whether a charitable gift annuity is appropriate for their situation.

A charitable lead trust provides support to Maple Knoll Communities for a period of time, with remaining assets ultimately passing to designated beneficiaries.

CLTs may:

  • Provide charitable support during your lifetime
  • Offer estate and gift tax planning benefits
  • Preserve assets for future generations

Charitable lead trusts are complex planning tools and are subject to review and acceptance. Donors should consult with their legal and financial advisors.

A charitable remainder trust allows you to make a gift, receive income for life or a set term, and leave the remaining assets to support Maple Knoll Communities.

This type of gift may:

  • Provide income to you or other beneficiaries
  • Offer potential tax advantages
  • Convert appreciated assets into income

All charitable remainder trust arrangements are subject to review and acceptance.

If you have a donor-advised fund, you may recommend a grant to Maple Knoll Communities Foundation at any time.

DAF gifts are:

  • Flexible and convenient
  • An easy way to support designated or unrestricted funds
  • A meaningful option for family philanthropy

Please include the specific Maple Knoll Communities’ Foundation fund you wish to support when recommending your grant.

Maple Knoll Communities Foundation welcomes partnerships with private and family foundations whose priorities align with our mission.

Foundation partnerships may support:

  • Resident-focused programs
  • Long-term initiatives
  • Innovation and sustainability across our communities

All foundation gifts are accepted in accordance with Foundation policies.

Life insurance may be used to support Maple Knoll Communities Foundation in several ways, subject to review and acceptance.

You may:

  • Name the Foundation as the beneficiary of a policy, or
  • Transfer ownership of a paid-up policy to the Foundation

Life insurance gifts should be discussed with the Foundation in advance to ensure proper handling and documentation.

Gifts of residential, commercial, or undeveloped real estate may be accepted following careful review.

Each property is evaluated based on factors such as:

  • Marketability and salability
  • Potential liabilities or encumbrances
  • Environmental considerations

All real estate gifts require approval by Maple Knoll Communities leadership and are subject to Foundation policies.

Donating appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual funds is a tax-efficient way to support Maple Knoll Communities.

When you give publicly traded securities, you may avoid capital gains tax and may be eligible for a charitable deduction equal to the fair market value of the gift, as determined on the date the securities are received.

How it works:

  • Securities are transferred directly to Maple Knoll Communities Foundation
  • Gifts are valued on the date the shares are received
  • In most cases, securities are liquidated upon receipt, and proceeds support the fund you designate

To ensure your gift is received and credited properly, we strongly encourage you to contact the Foundation in advance for transfer instructions.

If you are age 70½ or older, you may be able to make a gift directly from your IRA to Maple Knoll Communities Foundation.

These gifts may:

  • Count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD)
  • Not included in your taxable income
  • Be made up to the annual limit allowed by law

Because retirement plan rules and tax laws change, donors are encouraged to consult their financial or tax advisor before making an IRA charitable contribution.

Many mutual funds may be donated directly, similar to gifts of publicly traded securities.

Benefits may include:

  • Avoiding capital gains tax
  • Supporting the fund of your choice
  • Simplifying charitable giving

Please contact the Foundation for transfer instructions prior to making a gift.

You may name Maple Knoll Communities Foundation as a beneficiary of qualified retirement plans, including IRAs, 401(k)s, and 403(b)s.

This can be one of the most tax-efficient ways to make a future gift, as retirement assets are often subject to significant taxation when left to individuals.

Donors should consult their advisors before completing beneficiary designations.

Savings bonds may be donated outright or included as part of your estate plan.

These gifts may:

  • Reduce taxable income
  • Support Maple Knoll Communities’ mission
  • Be an effective way to use long-held assets
